FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - On-loan midfielder Zachary Herivaux is likely to make his debut for San Antonio FC on Tuesday night when the USL side visits Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Starfire Sports Complex.

The third Homegrown player in New England Revolution history recently joined the Texas outfit for a loan stint with a view to getting game minutes, which have been in short supply during Herivaux's first two years in Foxborough.

Herivaux has seen just 38 minutes of league action over five substitute appearances since signing from the Revolution Academy in May 2015, while he's made five additional appearances in the U.S. Open Cup, scoring a 103rd-minute game winner against the Carolina RailHawks last June.

New England head coach Jay Heaps said the Revs considered loaning Herivaux out last season, but wanted to first give him a full year to acclimate to the professional game in their setup. But now it's time for the 21-year-old midfielder to continue developing on the field in first-team matches.

"Zach is in a phase of his career where he needs games," said Heaps. "We just don't have enough games right now - until the Open Cup starts (in June) - to have him sitting on the bench or not getting enough games.

"It was really important for us to have him around last year to acclimate and get his first experience as a professional with us, and train with us every day. Knowing the coaching staff [in San Antonio], we're getting him into a really good place where the coaches are going to be able to get him live action."

In previous years - as both a pro and an Academy player - Herivaux has seen significant time with the Revs during preseason, but an injury in the club's first Desert Diamond Cup match in February took those precious minutes away, and furthered the need for a loan stint.

At present the plan is for Herivaux to remain with San Antonio for the short-term, and then both clubs will reassess the situation in a few weeks, although Herivaux is likely to eventually rejoin the Revs for Open Cup matches regardless.

"This is a really good time for him to get some experience and get some games underneath his belt," Heaps said. "We'll reassess after he has a couple games.

"We want to make sure that both sides are going to benefit from it - that he's going to play games and that they want him to play games, and that he's just not going to go there and train and not play."
