Henry HR Gives Lakewood 5-2 Win

SALISBURY, MD-Carl Henry Jr. hit a 3-run homer in the top of the 6th inning to propel the BlueClaws to a 5- 2 win Wednesday night at Delmarva. It was Henry's 2nd homer of the season and put Lakewood up for good. The Henry homer and a fine outing from Carlos Monasterios paved the way for Lakewood to get back to .500 at 8-8, and ended a stretch of 7 consecutive games decided by 1-run.

Monasterios (1-1) threw 7 innings and allowed just 2 runs on 6 hits to follow up the 7 shutout he tossed against Delmarva last week. Garet Hill (1) picked up a 2-inning save.

Lakewood got the first run of the game in the 2nd on an RBI single by Doug Morales, who was 2-4 on the night, which scored Tuffy Gosewisch who had a double and 2 walks. Quintin Berry scored the most dramatic run of the game in the 9th, when he came in on a single by Adrian Cardenas and scored by barreling over Delmarva catcher Michael Pierce.

Delmarva scored single runs in the 3rd on an RBI triple by Bobby Andrews and 5th when Andrews picked up an RBI single.

Shorebirds starter Brad Bergesen (1-2), who entered the game with a 0.47 ERA in 19 IP, allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings.

The BlueClaws and Shorebirds play the rubber game of 3 on Thursday night. Darren Byrd (0-1, 6.75 ERA) throws for Lakewood against Fernando De Nabal (0-2, 8.71) at 6:35. You can hear all the action on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB) beginning at 6:20.
