Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - Omaha Lancers rookie forward Jake Henderson, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, has committed to play NCAA Division 1 college hockey for the Providence Friars of Hockey East beginning in the 2015-16 season, the team announced Thursday. Henderson will join Lancers teammate Ryan Tait with the Friars following next year's USHL campaign.

"Jake is a great young hockey player and this is a huge step in his development," said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Thursday. "Providence is a great fit for Jake and we're very excited for what the future holds for him."

"I knew Providence was the right place for me," said Henderson Thursday. "I loved the area, loved the fact it's a smaller school and to play in Hockey East was big." A 6'2", 190 lb. winger, Henderson has notched three goals and five total points so far this year in his first USHL season, along with a plus-three rating and 19 penalty minutes. Henderson says getting his future plans nailed down will help him the rest of the way in his junior career. "[Making my commitment] is a huge weight off my shoulders," said Henderson, "Now I can focus on finishing high school and really enjoy the rest of my time in the USHL."

With Thursday's announcement, Henderson becomes the 14th Lancers player to make a Division 1 commitment this season joining Connor Light and Tyler Hynes (Union College), Steven Johnson (Minnesota), Tucker Poolman (North Dakota), Zach Jordan (Michigan Tech), Tait (Providence), Jake Randolph and Tyler Vesel (Nebraska-Omaha), Anthony Angello (Cornell), Jimmy Schuldt (St. Cloud State), Matt Nelson (Princeton), Cole Bruns (Army) and Luca Frigo (Minnesota State-Mankato).

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Friday clash with the Tri-City Storm at 7:30 pm at Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Full coverage of Friday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 7:15 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.

In 2013-14, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 28th season in the USHL.
