CHARLESTON, S.C. - Matt Heidenreich penned 6.2 sterling innings, and the Intimidators' offense blew a tight affair wide open with a five-run eighth to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 8-2, in South Atlantic League action Saturday night in front of a crowd of 5,459 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Kannapolis improved to 3-0 with the victory and 40-31 overall, while Charleston dropped its third straight to fall to 0-3 and 26-47 overall.

Kannapolis tallied an unearned marker to jump out to a 1-0 first inning lead against Charleston starter Shane Greene (2-8). Juan Silverio ripped a double to right-centerfield to start the frame, and came in to score three batters later on a Brady Shoemaker RBI groundout.

Another RiverDogs fielding miscue helped the Intimidators to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Kevin Dubler worked a one-out walk, scampered to second on a passed ball, and raced home to touch the plate on a groundball that eluded the glove of shortstop Jose Mojica and rolled into shallow centerfield.

The Intimidators' attack churned out another run in the top of the third to advance the cushion to 3-0. Trayce Thompson reached on a throwing error by third baseman Garrison Lassiter, swiped second base, and was driven in on a RBI single off the bat of Dan Black.

Greene was hurt by his defense over 5.0 innings of work, yielding the three unearned runs on three hits and four walks, while fanning four.

Charleston forged a two-out rally to draw within a run and trim the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh.

Mojica legged out an infield single with two outs, and Lassiter hugged the left-field line with a double to put two men in scoring position for Eduardo Sosa. A wild pitched plated Mojica from third, and Sosa drilled a RBI double to the left-centerfield alley to score Lassiter for the second run, forcing Heidenreich (5-5) from the mound.

Heidenreich was excellent for most of the night, hurling 6.2 innings of two-run ball. The former fourth round draft pick gave up six hits and a walk, while striking out five.

Tommy Kahnle struck out a pair and retired the side in order in his first inning of relief, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh, as Kannapolis struck for five runs to take a commanding 8-2 advantage.

Drew Lee drove home the first two runs with a groundball single through the right side of the infield. Following a Dubler single, Kenny Gilbert crushed a two-run triple to the right-center field wall to advance the margin to 7-2 and end Kahnle's evening. Silverio capped the rally two batters later, lofting a sacrifice fly to right field to send home Gilbert from third.

Nick McCully penned 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Intimidators to register his first save of the campaign and clinch a series victory.
