Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Arena Football League today announced that Columbus Destroyers defensive specialist Brandon Hefflin has been named the Week 9 ADT Defensive Player of the Week. Hefflin is the second Destroyers player to win an AFL weekly award this season.
Hefflin (6-1, 190, Toledo), in his second season in the Arena Football League, set career single-game-highs in fumble recoveries (two) and tackles 13.5 (13UT-1AT) while adding an interception in Saturday's 65-21 thumping of the defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush. Hefflin helped the Destroyers force seven Crush turnovers and hold them to 21 points. The seven turnovers were the most in franchise history for the Crush, and the 21 points were the fewest scored in franchise history.
Hefflin's interception stopped the Crush on their first drive. His first fumble recovery set up the Destroyers' fourth score and helped give Columbus a 24-7 lead. His second recovery came on the Crush's very next offensive series, and after a 19-yard return, he set the Destroyers up at the Crush 7-yard line. Two plays later, the Destroyers took a 31-7 lead.
The Destroyers will finish their two-game road trip on Saturday, Apr. 1, when they travel to take on the National Conference-leading Dallas Desperados. Kickoff at American Airlines Center is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET).
When the Destroyers return home on Sunday, Apr. 8, to take on the Orlando Predators, it will be Zooperstars Character Night and Dispatch/Mix 97.1 Family Game. The Zooperstars are hilarious characters dance, flip, bounce, shake, and just plain entertain.
