Heat Adds Yet Another Star Forward

January 31, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Harrisburg Heat News Release

Harrisburg, PA - In the most recent of a handful of roster moves designed to make the Harrisburg Heat a bona fide championship contender, the team announced on Friday that it has acquired forward Nikola Vignjevic (pronounced vin-YA-vitch) from the Kansas City Comets in exchange for future considerations.

Vignjevic, 31, has earned a reputation as one of the indoor game's most lethal players since entering the League in 1996-97 with Cleveland. His impact was stunning and immediate: the native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, scored 58 goals and 149 points in his first season with the Crunch. Injuries limited him to 18 points in 17 games in 1997-98, but he began to return to form with the Edmonton Drillers in 1998-99, with 28 goals and 82 points in 36 games.

The 6-1, 180-pound forward enjoyed his best season to date in 1999-00, scoring 166 points (seventh in the League) on 61 goals and 63 assists. He tallied 118 points while splitting the season between Edmonton and Cleveland in 2000-01, and sat out the '01-'02 MISL campaign. He had scored 17 points in 14 games with the Comets this season prior to the trade. Vignjevic, an All-NPSL Second Team selection in 1999-00, has scored 203 goals and assisted on 195 others for 550 points in 188 career games.

Vignjevic is expected to arrive in Harrisburg this weekend and be available as the Heat begins its six-game February road trip with a contest in San Diego next Thursday, February 6 (10:05 p.m. EST kickoff). He joins goalkeeper Chris Damico, defender Neil Gilbert, and Gino DiFlorio as recent Heat acquisitions.
