Harrisburg, PA - Raul Salas made 17 saves as the Harrisburg Heat won its second straight game, 18-8 over the Cleveland Force in front of a season-high crowd of 5,991 fans at the Farm Show Arena on Saturday night. Harrisburg ended the game on a 16-2 run to improve to 14-21 on the season, while the Force falls to 18-17 with the loss.
Cleveland scored the first three goals of the game, two coming from Justin Evans, to take a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Heat began its run at 8:15 of the second when Ze Roberto's drive from three-point range found its way through Cleveland keeper Jim Larkin (12 saves). Harrisburg followed with 2pgs from Ato Leone (10:31), Marco Coria (12:37), and Mike Henning (14:22) before the half was out and took a 9-6 lead into intermission.
Neil Gilbert's two-point restart goal at 1:34 of the third put the Heat up 11-6, but Harrisburg's run ended at 7:12 when longtime legend and former Heat playmaker Zoran Karic pounded home a two-point power play score to make it 11-8 at the end of three.
Harrisburg scored the only three goals of the fourth quarter, from Leone (3:07), Nikola Vignjevic (4:02), and Coria (at 12:49 against sixth attacker John Ball) to wrap up the 18-8 win.
NOTES: The Heat completes its 2002-03 season tomorrow night, Sunday, March 23, when the Kansas City Comets visit the Farm Show Arena. Kickoff is 6:05 p.m...With a first-half block, David Bascome became the Heat's all-time leader in that category. Bascome has now blocked 341 shots in a Heat uniform...Ze Roberto finished the game with five points; his 3pg in the second quarter was the first of his career...Nikola Vignjevic (3pg, assist), Ato Leone (two 2pgs), and Marco Coria (two 2pgs) all finished with four points for Harrisburg...Salas' 17 saves were a personal season high.
