
Force Shocks San Diego for First Win of Weekend

CLEVELAND, OHIO â The Cleveland Force returned home in the first game of a five game home stand and defeated the San Diego Sockers 15-10, in a Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) game at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
With the win, Cleveland improved to 12-11 overall, 7-5 versus Western Conference opponents and 8-2 at home. With the loss, San Diego fell to 10-15 overall and 0-4 in the season series.
The Force opened up the scoring (2-0) when John Ball scored a two-point goal off the cross from Lee Edgerton with just 41 seconds gone in the first quarter. Cleveland added to its lead (4-0) when Just Evans found the upper right corner for a two-point score off the pass from Anthony Maher at 8:28 of the opening period. The Sockers cut into the lead (4-2) when Kevin Sakuda scored a two-point goal off the pass from Aaron Susi at 10:30.
The Force opened the second quarter period (6-2) when Giuliano Oliviero scored a two-point goal off the second assist of the game for Edgerton at 32 seconds. The Sockers cut into the lead (6-5) when Susi scored a three-point goal off the cross from Robbie Aristodemo at 7:24. Cleveland added to its lead (8-5) when DJ Newsom scored a two-point goal off the second assist of the game for Maher at 12:36.
San Diego opened the second half scoring (8-5) when Susi scored a two-point power play goal off the assist from Alejandro Cardenas at 7:50 of the third quarter.
The Force opened the final period scoring (10-7) when Oliviero scored a two-point goal off the assist from Ball just 21 seconds into the quarter. The Sockers tied the game (10-10) when Carlos "Chile" Farias scored a three-point goal off the pass from Aristodemo at 5:48. Cleveland regained the lead (13-10) when Justin Evans scored a three-point goal of the season-high third assist from Maher at 9:30. The Force added to their lead (15-10) when Newsom scored his second goal of the game off the third assist of the game for Edgerton at 9:52.
Cleveland will next play host to the Kansas City Comets in a MISL game on Sunday, February 2nd at the Convocation Center at CSU.
