BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Hazar-Bestos Contracting and the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays joined forces this season to donate money to Battle Creek Health System's Cancer Care Center and American Cancer Society. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 21 before the 2:05 p.m. Devil Rays game against the Burlington Bees.

"We value our partnership with the Devil Rays and have always made the fight against cancer our No. 1 giving priority." HBC President Mike Beck said.

For each home run hit by the Devil Rays at home in 2005, HBC pledged $100. Currently, the total stands at 38 home runs and $3,800 with 12 games remaining. The check presented by HBC will be for $2,500 to the Cancer Care Center and $2,500 to the American Cancer Society.

"This was a great way for HBC and the Devil Rays to go beyond our own causes in the community," Devil Rays GM Martie Cordaro said. "Battle Creek Health System's Cancer Care Center and American Cancer Society are two great places for us to get involved this season and to celebrate each home run with a donation was a great way to remind people about it. Mike Beck and HBC are great community partners and prove it through this promotion."

During the final weekend of 2005 the Devil Rays with the top three home run totals at home will be awarded prizes from HBC. The current leaders are Reid Brignac, 7 and John Jaso, 7 with Shaun Cumberland and Patrick Breen tied with four.
