Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars and Beloit Snappers were locked in a pitcher's duel through three innings on Friday night before the Snappers erupted in the middle frames and continued for a 10-5 win in front of 10,815 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.
Cougars starter Ryan Webb was perfect through three and had retired the first 10 Snappers he faced before two singles and three-run homer in the fourth put Beloit ahead 3-0. The visitors added to that with three in the fifth to chase Webb, who gave up six runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out three. J.R. Pickens surrendered three runs in the sixth, and Trent Peterson allowed another for a 10-0 deficit.
The Cougars finally broke through in the sixth against Snappers starter Matt Garza. Eddie Kim's grounder scored Luis Perez, and Travis Buck doubled to bring home Myron Leslie after a double of his own. Kane County got a run-scoring single from Perez in the seventh off John Williams to cut it to 10-3 and produced a pair of tallies in the ninth. Cliff Pennington's double and Perez's grounder scored David Castillo and Gregorio Petit, respectively, for the 10-5 final. Webb (5-11) took the loss, Garza (2-2) got the win and Williams recorded his first save with three relief innings. The Cougars (28-27) are now one game behind Beloit (29-26) and still tied with Burlington in the race for the second playoff spot in the Western Division. Kane County looks to Mike Rogers (6-7, 5.14) in game two of the series on Saturday night. Beloit counters with right-hander Eddie Morlan (3-3, 3.45). The first pitch is set for 6 CDT.
