Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws (12-20) are chasing the Dakota Wizards (15-14) in the standings, and tonight they were chasing them on the court as the visiting Wizards dominated the Maine Red Claws right from tip off and never let up. The Wizards took home the 122-100 win, overshadowing Kenny Hayes first-ever triple-double.
The Dakota Wizards started off strong with a nine point run in the opening minutes of play. It was a trend of the night, with the Wizards leading Maine by as much by 33. Maine made a last ditch effort, outscoring Dakota in the fourth quarter 26-19, but it was too little, too late.
The Wizards took advantage of Maine defensive lapses all night, finishing with six players in double digits. Stephon Hannah led his team with 30 points, 24 of which were from outside the arch. Hannah was just two shy of tying the NBA Development League record for 3-point field goals made, finishing the night with 8. Marcus Dove had 21 points and 8 rebounds on the night, matching his season-high. Maurice Baker contributed 9 assists to his team. Maine's Morris Almond tied Dakota's Hannah's 30 points to lead the Red Claws in scoring. Kenny Hayes had a memorable night, finally reaching a triple double after missing it by just two rebounds Sunday vs. Texas. Hayes closed the deal tonight, with 19 pts., 11 assists and 11 rebounds to record the second triple-double in Red Claws' history. Craig Brackins (15 pts.) and Courtney Pigram (11 pts.) also scored double digits.
The Wizards will return to action Friday at Erie and will close out the weekend Sunday when they host the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Red Claws will host the Bakersfield Jam on Sunday afternoon.
FREE CONCERT AFTER SUNDAY'S GAME AS CRUSHER TURNS 3!: This Sunday, February 19, the Red Claws will celebrate the third anniversary of the announcement of the team (02/25/09) a few days early with Crusher's 3rd Birthday Party. A perennial favorite night for the Red Claws' youngest fans, several of Crusher's mascot friends will be in attendance, and there will be a free concert by Rick Charette and the Bubblegum Band following the 1 PM contest vs. the Bakersfield Jam. Great seats remain for game.
