
'Hawks win fourth straight, top Xs 4-2

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks got a strong pitching performance from starter Mike Peschel to defeat the Sioux City Explorers 4-2 on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. The RedHawks improved to 16-4 in the second half and 44-24 overall with the victory. Sioux City dropped to 10-9 in the second half and 33-34 overall.
The RedHawks took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kelley Gulledge drilled his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the frame. Derek Dormanen would score on a wild pitch, and Joe Mathis scored on an RBI single by Bryon Jeffcoat. Sioux City put up single runs in the third and seventh innings, getting RBI singles from Casey Baker and Ian Church.
Peschel (5-4) picked up his first victory since June 19, going 6.0+ innings. He allowed two runs on six hits. He struck out two batters and walked two. Brian Adams pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the season. David Glick (1-1) took the loss for Sioux City. He pitched 1.0+ innings, allowing two runs on two hits before leaving the game with an injury.
The RedHawks continue their four-game series with the Sioux City Explorers on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Joe Sergent (8-2) will get the start for Fargo-Moorhead, while the Explorers will counter with Rob Purvis (3-1). Prior to the game, the RedHawks will introduce the 19-member 10th Anniversary Team. 16 current and former players will be on hand to be honored.
