Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers of the Northern League today signed their first major league veteran player. Dan Reichert who pitched in more than 100 games with the Kansas City Royals and another 15 with the Toronto Blue Jays between 1999 and 2004 will join the Vipers in Edmonton on Sunday and is likely to see action in the series against the Cracker-Cats.

Reichert, a 6'3" right hander, will take the place of veteran pitcher Alex Lontayo on the Vipers roster. Lontayo retired earlier this week to accept an employment opportunity in California.

Reichert's busiest season in the majors was in 2000 when he appeared in 44 games with the Royals and pitched 153 innings.

The Vipers begin a 4 game series with the Cracker-Cats tonight before heading on to Winnipeg and eventually Sioux City on their longest road trip of the season. This is the toughest portion of the season for the Vipers who will have played 35 games in 37 days by the time the regular season ends on Sept. 4.

Next Wednesday night's game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes will be televised live from CanWest Global Park on Shaw TV in Calgary.
