
Hawks Stifled by Stingy Lugnuts

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
The South Bend Silver Hawks (40-40, 5-5) lost 6-1 Sunday in the opening game of a three-game series with the first-half champion Lansing Lugnuts. With the loss, the Silver Hawks drop to 3-4 on their current nine-game home stand.
Aaron Sanchez (7-0) won the battle of first-round draft picks, tossing five scoreless innings with one walk and six strikeouts. The right-hander allowed just three hits and lowered his ERA to 0.63. Archie Bradley (7-5) took the loss for the Silver Hawks and allowed three earned runs on two hits over three innings. Bradley struck out six and walked five batters.
Trailing 6-0, Niko Gallego knocked in the only Silver Hawks run with a seventh inning RBI-double. Gallego paced the Silver Hawks offensively going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Matt Helm also added two hits for the Silver Hawks.
The Silver Hawks left nine men on base in the game.
The Lugnuts built a 6-0 lead, scoring two in the first, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Lugnuts had at least one base runner in eight of their nine offensive innings.
Kevin Pillar paced the Lugnuts going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Chris Hawkins, K.C. Hobson and Shane Opitz each managed two hits for the Lugnuts.
The Silver Hawks are 2-5 against the Lugnuts in seven meetings this season.
Left-hander Keith Hessler worked two innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen and allowed two earned runs on three hits with one walk and no strikeouts. Matt Sample tossed two innings and allowed one earned runs on three hits. Seth Simmons hurled the final two innings scoreless and struck out four batters.
The Silver Hawks and Lugnuts play the second game of a three-game series Monday at Coveleski Stadium. Right-hander Tyler Green (2-4, 4.38) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by left-hander David Rollins (5-1, 3.10).
