DAVENPORT, Iowa (JULY 1, 2012) - Former Quad Cities minor league baseball players and current major leaguers Joe Mauer, Chris Perez and Lance Lynn were each selected as All-Stars for the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game July 10 in Kansas City, Mo.
Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft and played his first full professional season for the Quad City River Bandits, the Twins Class-A affiliate in 2002. Mauer hit .302 with four home runs and 62 RBIs in 110 games and was named a Midwest League postseason all-star. Mauer debuted for the Twins in 2004. He is currently fifth in the American League with a .325 batting average. He was selected to his fifth major league All-Star Game Sunday and was the only Twin to make the A.L. All-Star roster.
Cleveland Indians pitcher Chris Perez, a supplement first-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006, pitched for the Swing of the Quad Cities to begin his professional career that season. In 25 relief appearances, Perez was 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA. He debuted for St. Louis in 2008 and was traded by the Cardinals to the Cleveland Indians in June 2009. Perez was named to his second All-Star Game for Cleveland and is one of two Indians on the A.L. All-Star roster. He is currently tied for the major league lead with 23 saves.
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn was a first supplemental round pick in 2008, the same season he pitched for the Cardinals affiliates at Batavia and Quad Cities. For the River Bandits, Lynn started two games and went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in eight innings pitched. He was reached the major leagues for St. Louis in 2011 and was a reliever on the 2011 World Series Championship team. He has been a starter for the Cardinals this season and is tied for second in the National League with 10 wins. He was named to his first All-Star Game and was one of four Cardinals named to the initial N.L. All-Star roster.
