Burlington Bees News Release

BURLINGTON, Iowa (7/1/12) - The Burlington Bees (38-41, 6-4) couldn't keep up with the LumberKings (29- 49, 6-4) and lost 15-to-7 in another high scoring Sunday day game. The Bees only had two less hits than the LumberKings, but also committed four errors in the loss.

Raul Alcantara made his 15th start on Sunday and came off a loss to Cedar Rapids where he only lasted 4.1 innings and allowed four earned runs. Things looked bad from the start as the first batter reached on an error by Bees centerfielder Aaron Shipman, and reached third on a throwing error by Raul Alcantara.

Three runners eventually crossed home plate in the top of the first, but the LumberKings weren't done. Alcan- tara allowed another three runs to score in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth.

As if that weren't enough, Alcantara went on to allow three more runs in the top of the fifth before recording an out. In fact, Bees' skipper Aaron Nieckula yanked Alcantara in favor of Omar Duran. Duran struggled in his Bees' debut and allowed four hits and three earned runs in 1.1 innings.

Overall, the 19-year-old Alcantara suffered more growing pains in his development and only lasted four innings. The right-hander allowed nine hits, ten runs (seven earned) and two home runs. Alcantara (4-8) received his eighth loss and has allowed at least one home run in each of his last three games. He leads the team by hav- ing allowed ten home runs this season.

Of course the Bees also performed well at the plate. Sean Jamieson went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, run, and two RBIs. Rashun Dixon had one of his better games with the Bees by earning three hits in four at bats. Dixon also scored and drove in a run. Bobby Crocker was the only other hitter with multiple hits and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

With the Bees trailing 15-7, Douglas Landaeta made an appearance on the mound. Landaeta started the sea- son listed as an outfielder, but has played first base almost exclusively. Landaeta made the most of his oppor- tunity to play first and did the same on the mound Sunday. He loaded the bases, but pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Bees try to turn things around on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Max Perlman (1-3) takes the bump in game two. For more information on Bees baseball call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
