Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Importance: Normal
A late first period scoring outburst by the Indiana Ice Friday gave the home team the boost they needed to top the Waterloo Black Hawks 6-2 at Pan Am Arena in Indianapolis.
A power play goal got Indiana started as Ryan Mantha blasted a shot into the net from the right point at 13:40. Scott Conway flipped the Ice's next goal past the glove side of Cal Petersen on a rush up ice at 19:08. Then with two seconds remaining before intermission, Mike Preston's shot off the iron landed in the crease and was shoveled in by Aiden Muir.
The Ice stretched the their margin to four goals at 10:39 of the second period, when a feed out of the right wing corner left Brian Pinho one-on-one with Petersen, and the Indiana forward scored on a low backhander. Less than a minute later, Zach Sanford's shot changed direction on its way to the net, eluding Jason Pawloski and finding its way between the posts. However, the Ice struck next on Timothy Shoup's shot from the left wing boards at 13:41 to carry a 5-1 edge to intermission.
Waterloo's biggest break of the night came 1:20 into the third period. Peter Krieger's errant shot off the end wall created a problem for Pawloski and slipped into the net off of him. However, consecutive Indiana power plays midway through period whittled the clock under eight minutes to go. When the Hawks had a man-advantage subsequently, they rolled the dice and sent out a sixth attacker, but that led to an empty net goal by Pinho at 12:57.
The Black Hawks' eastern trip continues Saturday with a visit to Walker Arena in Muskegon. Waterloo's tilt with the Lumberjacks begins at 6:15 Central Time.
