Indiana Ice News Release

Sure the Eastern Conference leading Indiana Ice' 6-2 victory over the Western Conference leading Waterloo Black Hawks was an impressive performance.

Not only did the Ice send to the showers the USHL's top winning goaltender - Cal Peterson (24-5-3), hold the USHL's leading goal-scoring team to a pair of goals, and launched a first-period season-high assault of 26 shots on goal.

Perhaps more impressive was the effort. That effort was best exemplified in the third period while holding a 6-2 lead with five minutes before the final horn, Indy hustled to have three potential icing calls waived off by beating Waterloo down the ice.

Indiana took control from the opening puck drop but it took 19 shots in the first period before they dented the net against Peterson. Ryan Mantha teamed with Vince Pedrie and Tyler Pham to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at 13:40 on the power play.

They struck for a pair of goals in the 19th minute to head to the first intermission leading 3-0. Scott Conway teamed with Austin Kosack with 52 seconds remaining in the opening stanza. Aidan Muir lit the lamp again for Indy--two ticks before the horn when he collaborated with Michael Preston and Joe Sullivan.

The Black Hawks did not go away easily as they outshot the Ice 30-17 the final two periods. Jason Pawloski stopped 28 of those shots to earn the win in net.

"They may have had plenty of shots, but my teammates kept most of the shots fairly easy to stop," commented the Indiana goaltender. "I would not call this a 'statement' game, but it was a big win against a first-place team."

Zach Sanford sandwiched a goal between a pair of Ice scores in the second period. Brian Pinho made it four unanswered goals when he struck for one of his two goals on the evening. Pedrie was credited with his second assist of the contest and Jacob Pritchard earned a helper in the scoring sequence.

Timothy Shoup blasted a blue line slap shot past Peterson to regain the four-goal advantage at 5-1. Sam Kurker assisted at 13:41 and the lamplighter sent Peterson to the bench.

The teams traded third period scores. Peter Krieger netted a goal at 1:20 and Pinho answered with a short-handed score to finalize the score at 6-2. Pinho's 17th goal of the season came with help from Conway and Kosack.

The action shifts to Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday when Indiana hosts the Chicago Steel for the annual "Pack the House for Charity "night. The puck drops at 7:05.
