Hawks Sign Keyon Kemp

April 28, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Everett Hawks News Release

Everett, WA - Keyon Kemp signed this week to play for the Everett Hawks of the National Indoor Football League. Kemp started his pro career with the Chicago Enforcers during the one year of existence of the XFL. He then moved on to play for the Greensboro Prowlers of the af2 in 2001 before moving to the Billings Outlaws (NIFL) for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He also spent time with the Bismarck Roughriders (NIFL) and Tri-Cities Fever (NIFL).

His first practice was Tuesday night. Kemp is expected to see action against Tri-Cities this Saturday.

"He's great addition to our team. He's a smart veteran player – It's like having another coach on the field," said Hawk's Head Coach Dan Maciejczak. "You just don't walk in, and expected to be in football shape. He'll have to work himself into shape, but I think he'll do a good job for us."

Coach Majic said the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Kemp was impressive in his first day of practice. He showed glimpses of what he used to look like in 2002, when he was ranked seventh in the league in passes defended and added 54 unassisted tackles and 35 assisted tackles.

Maciejczak also announced the team has traded defensive tackle Robert Gaines Jr. to the Billings Outlaws in exchange for defensive back Sedric Ashley.
