Everett Hawks News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Hawks and the arenafootball2 league office have announced that Hawks DL Johnny Jackson has been named the af2 ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding defensive effort last Sunday, May 27, against the Bakersfield Blitz.
Jackson (6-3, 270, Arizona), who came into this weekend's action with only one sack on the season, put together one of the best defensive efforts in Hawks' history last weekend. His four sacks and five tackles for loss set single-game franchise records in those respective categories. He finished Sunday with 6.5 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, as well. Jackson led a strong defensive effort for the Hawks, who sacked QB Chad Elliott seven times in their 66-61 victory over the Blitz.
"Johnny had a great game," said Hawks Head Coach Cedric Walker. "He's a hard worker and he's going to do what's needed. Now that we know what we can get out of him, we're going to be expecting nothing else each week."
Jackson, who takes home his first career af2 weekly award, becomes the second Everett player in as many weeks to be honored by the league, as WR Josh Richey was named af2 Schutt Offensive Player of the Week in week eight. Jackson is currently tied for the team lead in tackles for loss (6.0) and sacks (5.0).
