Hawks Salute Military Heroes
November 8, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Following Monday's commemoration of Veteran's Day, the Waterloo Black Hawks will take the ice next Saturday against the Omaha Lancers in military-themed digital camouflage jerseys, sponsored by Screaming Eagle American Bar & Grill, the Hawks announced Friday.
After the game, the sweaters will be auctioned, with a portion of proceeds benefitting the Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 Honor Flight, among other veterans' organizations. The Honor Flight program has provided hundreds of aging World War II and Korean War veterans from the Cedar Valley with the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and be recognized for their service to our nation.
"Whether we are talking about the men and women of the World War II generation or the heroes who serve today, the Waterloo Black Hawks are proud to recognize our military," said Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "This is one of the traditions which our organization and our fans should be most proud of."
All active, uniformed servicemen and women will be admitted to the Hawks-Lancers matchup for free.
The Hawks' 2013-edition military jersey includes a spectrum of sandy colors, with Waterloo's traditional crest on the front, above a belt-level striped band with a star in the center. The sleeves are highlighted by white numbers below an insignia similar to sergeant's stripes and above a line of three black stars. On the back, white numbers outlined in black are positioned under the player name plate and above the Screaming Eagle logo. This is the third year that the Screaming Eagle has presented a patriotic Black Hawks jersey.
Good seats are available for next Saturday's game against the Lancers. Tickets for the matchup, which begins at 7:05, can be ordered online from waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling (319) 291-7680.
