Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two goals were scored in every period Friday at Young Arena, and by starting strong and ending well, the Waterloo Black Hawks outdistanced the Sioux Falls Stampede 4-2.
The opening tally came 8:26 into the game when Austin Vieth won a race to the puck along the end wall, and set up Brandon Montour, who rifled a shot off the iron and in. Waterloo added to the lead at 15:04, when John Wiitala's pass across the crease found Tyson McLellan with an open side.
Sioux Falls came back quickly in the second period. At 4:27, Tony Calderone fired a shot to the mesh from the right hash mark. Just less than four minutes later Bryan Sienerth send a low wrister across the goal line from the right circle.
However, two power play goals in the third pushed the game definitively Waterloo's way. At 5:40, Mitch DeMario let a shot go from the left point which made it to the net through a screen. Traffic at the front of the net was responsible for the second power play tally with 3:48 remaining, as Patrick Russell redirected an attempt by Hayden Shaw.
Mathias Israelsson backstopped the victory with 23 saves; Arthur Brey made 32 in the loss.
Waterloo's weekend concludes on the road Saturday night when the Hawks visit the Green Bay Gamblers. The next game at Young Arena is November 16th, when the Omaha Lancers visit Party Town for a 7:05 tilt.
