Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (17-13) beat the Vancouver Canadians (15-15) by a final score of 6-2 on Sunday evening. The Hawks win marks their fourth straight series victory.
Vancouver got on the board first and they did it quickly. The leadoff hitter Tanner Kirwer tripled to leftfield and it was Vincent Capra who came up next with a sacrifice fly to give the Canadians the quick 1-0 advantage.
In the 4th inning, Boise starter Justin Valdespina walked Bryan Lizardo and then allowed a base-hit to Jake Brodt to move Lizardo over to third base. Vancouver got their 2nd run of the game on a Chris Bec sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Valdespina finished the night going four innings allowing two runs on five hits for the Canadians.
Shelby Lackey threw two innings of scoreless baseball with four strikeouts and Peyton Gray did the same for an inning and a third with three strikeouts while he picked up the win.
Vancouver's starting pitcher Jose Espada stymied bats all game long. The right-hander had gone six inning and came back out to the mound for the 7th. But after he walked Danny Edgeworth and allowed a single to Willie Maciver, the Hawks had runners on the corners with nobody out.
Vancouver brought in Will McAffer to try and get the Canadians out of the jam. McAffer struck-out Daniel Jipping, and then walked Cade Harris to load the bases. Aubrey McCarty struck-out and there were two outs. But it was Greg Jones with a two-RBI single up the middle to tie the game at two. Kennard McDowell came up next and tacked on another run for Boise with an RBI single giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead in the 7th.
Boise wouldn't stop there. After LeeMarcus Boyd was hit by a pitch to load the bases again, Luke Morgan delivered with a bases-clearing triple to make the score 6-2 Hawks.
PJ Poulin came into the game for Boise and got the final four outs of the game, after Peyton Gray got the first two for the Hawks in the 8th. Poulin picks up his third save of the year and has not allowed a run over 10 innings in 2018.
The Boise Hawks hit the road tomorrow as they begin a three-game series with the first place Hillsboro Hops. The Hawks return home on Thursday, July 19th at 7:15 p.m. It will be Thirsty Thursday presented by Coors Light as Boise begins a five-game series with the Everett AquaSox.
