Hawks Raffle Limited-Edition Police Sweaters

Waterloo, Iowa - Beginning Friday, raffle tickets will be sold during Waterloo Black Hawks home games for special hockey jerseys commemorating fallen Black Hawk County law enforcement officers, with proceeds benefitting Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers.

Each jersey incorporates the logo of either the Waterloo Police Department, the Cedar Falls Police Department, or the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office into the Waterloo Black Hawks' crest which appears on the chest of the sweater. Most other elements of the jersey are identical to a red Waterloo game jersey, with the addition of Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers emblems on each shoulder.

Numbers related to Waterloo Officers Wayne Rice and Michael Hoing, who were killed in the line of duty in 1981, appear on the Waterloo PD sweaters. The Black Hawk County Sherriff's Office jerseys commemorate Deputy Doug Norton, who passed away unexpectedly in 2011, and Deputy Tim Petersen, who died in a vehicle accident in 2015. The Cedar Falls Police Department jerseys honor Reserve Officer Dan Conger, who sustained fatal injuries from a vehicle accident in 2004.

"We are proud to have this opportunity to help an organization which makes the Cedar Valley a safer place to live while honoring the memories of those who have sacrificed everything to protect the community," noted Joe Greene, Black Hawks vice president of sales and marketing.

Raffle tickets for the jerseys will be on sale for $5 apiece or five tickets for $20. Ticket sales will continue through the Black Hawks' game on Saturday, March 12th against the Sioux Falls Stampede, when the winners will be chosen. Six total jerseys will be awarded, two representing each department. Those purchasing tickets will have the option to choose which jersey their ticket will be entered to win.

Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers was organized in 2012 with the goal of keeping local neighborhoods safer. The program allows citizens to report suspicious and criminal behavior while remaining anonymous. No calls are traced, and if a tip leads to an arrest, the caller is eligible for a cash reward. Tips may be phoned in toll free to (855) 300-TIPS (8477). Since 2012 tips to Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers have led to 358 arrests for crimes ranging from simple theft to manufacturing methamphetamine to murder. Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization funded by individuals and businesses in the Cedar Valley. All donations are tax deductible.
