BOISE, ID: Right-handed pitcher Luke Chevalier of the Boise Hawks (Short-Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) was named the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week for his performances during the week of July 22-28th.
Chevalier, who was drafted in the 26th round this year by the Colorado Rockies, gave up no earned runs in the two games he started during the week. Over the eight innings that he tossed, gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six.
The most recent start for the right-hander came on Sunday July 28th where he threw his longest outing of the year. He struck out two and only gave up one hit against the Hillsboro Hops.
At the beginning of the season, Chevalier came out of the bullpen and struck out six over his six appearances. Amongst the Boise pitching staff, Chevalier has the third lowest ERA at 1.76. He began the starting role just as the Hawks were beginning the second half of the season.
Out of his eight appearances on the year, Chevalier has allowed earned runs in only two of those contests. Both times that he has started on the mound for the Hawks, his team has gone on to win.
Chevalier is the first Hawk this year to be awarded with weekly honors during the 2019 season.
