FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The South Bend Silver Hawks used a two-run sixth inning on Friday night to jump to a lead and defeat the Fort Wayne TinCaps by a final score of 3-2. Ruben Mejia pitched one third of an inning to begin the sixth for Fort Wayne and surrendered two runs, taking the loss in the series finale.

Matt Wisler pitched five innings for Fort Wayne (15-20), allowing one run on three hits and walking one. The 19-year-old from Bryan, Ohio struck out four batters for the fifth time in his seven outings. The lone run surrendered by Wisler came in the fifth on a Chris Ellison RBI double, making it 1-0 Silver Hawks.

In the latter half of the inning, the TinCaps battled back with help from the bottom of the lineup. Kyle Gaedele legged out an RBI triple to tie the game, and Corey Adamson lofted a sacrifice fly to left to give Fort Wayne a 2-1 lead over South Bend (20-15) at the end of five innings.

Mejia (0-1) faced Gerson Montilla to begin the sixth, and the Silver Hawks second baseman homered to deep left field, tying the game at two. Mejia got Matt Helm to ground out, but back-to-back doubles by Marc Bourgeois and Fidel Pena gave South Bend a 3-2 advantage which would stand for the remainder of the game.

The TinCaps challenged in the ninth, getting runners to first and third with nobody out, but a fielder's choice at the plate and double play thwarted the rally and ended the ballgame. South Bend starter Jesse Darrah (3-1) earned the win throwing six innings, allowing two runs, striking out six and walking none.

The TinCaps welcome West Michigan to Parkview Field on Saturday for the start of a four-game series. The scheduled starters for Saturday's first pitch are Cody Hebner for the TinCaps and Wilsen Palacios for West Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
