Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Two-point performances from Luca Cagnoni and James Stefan gave the Winterhawks a chance in Game 3, but the Blazers managed to edge out a 3-2 victory to take a 3-0 series lead. Kamloops now sits one win shy of advancing to the Western Conference Championship.
After notching five points in Game 2, Kamloops' Logan Stankoven kept his momentum rolling with an impressive individual effort to set up the Blazers' opening goal 9:48 into the first period, scored by Jakub Demek. Soon after, though, Portland's power play went to work, and a one-timed blast at 11:23 from Jack O'Brien knotted things up at one.
The game remained tied through 20 minutes and the start of the second, but again Stankoven broke through with a power-play tally at 4:35 of the middle frame. Fraser Minten made it two in a row for the Blazers with another power-play tally early in the third, scoring what would become the game-winning goal.
The Winterhawks refused to roll over in the third, denting Ernst again on a Luca Cagnoni wrister with just over five minutes to play to give themselves life late. One final push came and went, though, and the Hawks came up just short in the 3-2 loss.
Game 4 in the series is set for tomorrow at 7 P.M. at the VMC.
