Hawks Land Five on All Star Team, But Fall To Omaha

The Omaha Lancers spoiled a record-tying day for the Black Hawks Tuesday, winning a 4-2 game at the Mid-America Center.

Earlier in the day, the USHL All-Star rosters were announced for the January 30th contest at Young Arena. Defensemen Vince LoVerde and Blake Kessel, forwards James Marcou and Josh Turnbull, and goaltender Matt DiGirolamo were all recognized with places on the Eastern Division squad. There will be more Waterloo All-Stars than any season since 1993-94 when the franchise also had five.

Tuesday's result was anticlimactic as the Lancers jumped to a 3-0 lead by the early third period. A powerplay score by Kyle Reeds put the Hawks on the board, and a two man breakaway for Matt Arhontas and Turnbull led to a goal by the latter. Waterloo could not tie the score, however and an empty-netter made the final 4-2.

The Hawks are looking forward to a rematch with the Lancers this weekend. On Friday night, Waterloo welcomes Green Bay to Young Arena for a 7:05 game. The first 1,000 fans will receive a partial set of Iwireless player cards. Then Saturday the Lancers visit Partytown. It's a College Weekend at the rink; for both games all college students with ID will be admitted for $5.
