Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks raced to an early lead and ultimately an 8-0 win against the Lincoln Stars Friday at the Ice Box.
The eight goal effort was the most on one night since February of 2017 when Waterloo had 10 during a win against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
The Black Hawks were rolling early with two goals in the first 95 seconds. Wyatt Schingoethe started the onslaught by banging in a rebound at 1:15. Twenty seconds later, a takeaway allowed Vladislav Firstov to set up Emil Ohrvall with an open side.
Another Stars turnover created Ryan Drkulec's unassisted score at 6:18.
Hawks' special teams expanded the margin late in the opening period. At 16:36. Matej Blumel blasted in a power play goal from the left ring. Then shorthanded less than a minute later, Brock Paul broke up a pass, sending Patrick Guzzo up the ice to a shorthanded breakaway and score at 17:15. Waterloo is the first team to score five goals against an opponent during the first period of any game in the USHL this season.
The goals continued in the second. On a power play at 1:43, Hank Sorensen's shot from the high slot went off the heal of Jacob Mucitelli's glove and into the net. Waterloo struck again at 13:50; Griffin Ness won a faceoff, then went to the net to redirect Kyle Haskins' shot from the right boards.
Connor Caponi added a final goal at 6:54 of the third period, when he tipped Brehdan Engum's right point shot.
Evan Fear stopped all 19 Lincoln shots for the shutout in his first Waterloo win. The Hawks outshot the Stars 49-19.
The Black Hawks are on home ice Saturday against the Sioux City Musketeers. It's a Black Hawks Family 4 Pack Night; while quantities last, get four attack zone tickets, four HyVee brats or mac and cheese dinners, and four chuck-a-pucks for $48.
