Hawks Fall in Extra-Innings to Spokane

The Boise Hawks (26-28, 6-12) fell to the Spokane Indians (26-30, 10-8) in the rubber match of the series. Spokane scored three runs in the 10th inning to get a 6-3 victory.

After both teams went down in order in the 1st inning, Spokane got the bats rolling in the 2nd inning. Justin Valdespina allowed five hits and two runs as Spokane got an RBI groundout scoring Diosbel Arias and an RBI single from Troy Dixon that brought home Kevin Mendoza to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks answered with a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. After a double to lead off the inning for Willie MacIver, Hidekel Gonzalez came up with two outs and ripped a double down the leftfield line to make it just 2-1 Spokane.

Boise starter Justin Valdespina gave the Hawks five innings allowing just two runs and it was Mike Nikorak who came on in the 6th inning and despite allowing a hit, and walking one, he got three strikeouts to keep the score at 2-1.

Boise came up in the 6th inning and got the bats working. Four straight singles to start the inning, including RBI's from Willie MacIver and Jeff Bohling gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead.

Spokane responded in the 8th inning. After a single from Tyler Depreta-Johnson started the frame, it was Starling Joseph with a double to bring home Depreta-Johnson and even the game up at three.

We went to extra-innings after Boise's PJ Poulin struck-out the side in the top of the 9th, and the Hawks failed to score in the bottom of the inning.

In the 10th, Spokane came out swinging. It was an RBI double for Depreta-Johnson to get the first of three runs. After an error allowed Spokane to have runners on first and second-base, the Indians got an RBI single for Curtis Terry to make it 5-3 Spokane and they added a run on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Mendoza.

Boise went down in order in the 9th and Spokane took the series. The Hawks finish 5-5 against Spokane for the season.

The Hawks will return tomorrow for the first game of the three-game series with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. MT. Tomorrow will be Two for Tuesday.
