Hawks Fall 3-1 on Saturday

Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Two second period strikes and 37 saves from Spokane's Dawson Cowan were the difference as the Chiefs took a 3-1 win over the Winterhawks at the VMC on Saturday.
Spokane opened the scoring 3:54 into the game on a Conner Roulette power-play goal. Roulette then turned playmaker 4:25 into the second, chipping in an assist on Chase Bertholet's eventual game-winner.
The Winterhawks' offense found a jolt from there; Josh Davies responded 26 seconds later with a second-chance strike of his own, notching his 23rd goal of the season. They then appeared to tie the game shortly after, but the goal was waved off after Spokane netminder Dawson Cowan had knocked his net off its moorings.
Portland pressed for the tying tally, but Spokane's Hayden Paupanekis made it 3-1 with five minutes left in the frame with a shot from the high slot. The third period saw chances traded both ways, but neither team lit the lamp.
Winterhawks netminder Nick Avakyan put in quite the shift with 46 saves on 49 shots in the loss.
The Winterhawks will now head to their holiday break and return to action on the road against Tri-City on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
