Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Jesse Hodges scored the game-winning run on a Vancouver error in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Boise Hawks rallied from a 7-0 deficit to stun the Canadians, 8-7, at Memorial Stadium.
Hodges led off the ninth with an infield single and took second on a wild pitch. With a two-strike count, Danny Canela hit a high-chopper over the mound that went underneath the glove of C's second-baseman Tim Locastro, with Hodges hustling around for the winning run.
Vancouver took advantage of four Boise errors to plate four runs in the opening two frames, extending the lead to 7-0 in the sixth on a Roemon Fields two-run double.
The Hawks got on the board in the sixth on a Mark Malave sacrifice fly, then sent 11 men to the plate in the seventh. Charcer Burks doubled in a run, followed by a run-scoring single from Danny Lockhart. Canela made it 7-5, capping a 10-pitch at-bat with a pinch-hit two-run single. Bryant Flete made it 7-6 with an RBI infield single, with Boise tying the game when a flip to second on the plate ended up in right field.
Trey Lang slammed the door on the C's, picking up his first professional win by fanning five of the six men he faced in relief.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m., with James Norwood meeting Vancouver fire-baller Miguel Castro.
NOTES: It was the second walk-off win at home this season for the Hawks (July 15 vs. Spokane) and the fourth time Boise has rallied from at least a four-run deficit to win (biggest rally since overcoming a 9-1 deficit last season at Salem-Keizer)...Hodges was 3-for-5 in the win, extending his hit streak to five games...Vancouver starter Jairo Labourt was dominant, allowing just two hits in five shutout innings, striking out six...Boise had 11 hits in the final four innings, including two each by Canela and Flete...it was the first meeting between the teams since Vancouver defeated Boise, 5-0, in the deciding Game 3 of the 2013 Northwest League Championship Series.
