South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Midland, MI - The South Bend Silver Hawks dropped their third straight game on Saturday night, falling to the Great Lakes Loons 6-1 at Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan.
It was the third night in a row that the lineup was without Yazy Arbelo (serving a suspension) and Matt Helm (out with an injury), and it showed as the Hawks were held to only one run on four hits.
Angel Sanchez (WP, 8-4) allowed just the one run over 7.0 innings, striking out six with only one walk in earning the win. Pete Budkevics (ND) allowed just one base runner over the final two innings to close it out for Great Lakes.
South Bend starter Bradin Hagens (LP, 8-7) entered the game with a 2-0 mark and 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings against Great Lakes this season. However, the Loons figured him out for five runs (four earned) in 7.0 innings to take game one of the series.
Steve Domecus had a two run homer to lead the Loons offense, while Blake Dean finished with two hits, a RBI, and a run scored.
Gerson Montilla was 2-for-3 for South Bend, including a single, double, and the team's lone run scored. Roberto Rodriguez had the lone RBI with a single in the seventh inning.
The final series of the year continues with a 2:05 PM Eastern Time start on Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond. RHP J.R. Bradley (6-15, 4.89 ERA) will start for South Bend against LHP Greg Wilborn (3-4, 3.75 ERA) of the Loons.
