
Hawks Comeback Comes Up Short

Boise, Idaho - On a picturesque night at Memorial Stadium, the Boise Hawks dropped game one against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes by a score of 7-5.
The Volcanoes took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Miguel Gomez hit an RBI single to center field off Hawks starting pitcher, Dylan Thompson.
The Volcanoes added a second run in the second inning pushing their lead to 2-0 before the Hawks came storming back, sending nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the third.
Brian Carroll led off the inning with a single that was followed by an Eric Toole double to right field. Yonathan Daza stepped to the plate a delivered a two RBI double that snaked down the left field line to tie the game at 2-2. Tyler Follis and Wilkyns Jimenez each followed with RBI singles that gave the Hawks a 4-2 advantage.
Andrew Leenhouts took the mound for the Volcanoes and pitched five and two thirds of an inning, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out three and picking up the win.
The Volcanoes plated one more run in the top of the fourth on a Christian Lichtenthaler sacrifice fly before breaking out with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Drasen Johnson entered for the Hawks and gave up a leadoff triple to Julio Pena who later scored on a Mark Nelson RBI single. The Volcanoes then added two more runs on a Richard Amion sacrifice fly and a Chris Snow fielder's choice, taking a 6-4 lead.
Johnson picked up the loss for the Hawks, pitching one inning and giving up three hits and three runs with only two of them earned.
Each team added a run in the ninth as the Volcanoes took the game by a final score of 7-5.
The Hawks (5-9) will be back in action for game two against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes tomorrow night at Memorial Stadium. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
Notes: Yonathan Daza continued his hot streak and raised his league leading batting average to .396, adding a single and a double to go along with two RBI's on the night... The Hawks tied a season high with four errors.
