C's Offense Continues To Sputter In 3-0 Loss To Indians

July 2, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Canadians offense wasted another solid performance from its pitching staff as the Spokane Indians opened up a three-game series in Vancouver with a 3-0 shutout victory on Canada Day.

Canadians starter RHP Jon Harris (0-1) would take the loss, not knowing that the lone run he allowed in the top of the 1st inning would hold up through the entire game. A double from Indians DH LaDarius Clark eventually came around to count on a base hit off the bat of RF Jamie Potts to give Spokane a 1-0 lead.

The Indians wouldn't score again until the 7th inning when they plated a pair of runs getting to RHP Jon Wandling with a double sandwiched in between a pair of base hits that put the game out of reach.

Spokane starter RHP Emerson Martinez who came into Wednesday's game 0-2 with a 16.88 ERA sparkled against Vancouver going five scoreless innings allowing just three hits en route to his first win of the summer. LHP Jeff Springs would go 2 1/3 innings followed by RHP Dario Beltre (1 2/3 innings for his 1st save of the season) to preserve the shutout bid.

Of the six Canadians hits on the night, 2B Gunnar Heidt was responsible for two of them as was C Kevin Garcia who finished with a single and a double in the loss.

Notes: With the loss, Vancouver falls into last place in the NWL North at 6-8, while Spokane and Tri-City both improved to 7-7, Everett fell to 10-4... The Canadians debuted two new players as 3B Carl Wise (Charleston, SC) went 0-for-4 and 1B Connor Panas (Toronto, ON) went 1-for-3 with his base hit coming in the bottom of the 4th inning...
