Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The South Bend Silver Hawks banged out fourteen hits topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-5 Tuesday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Steve Mena doubled in a pair of runs to cap a five run third inning that gave the Hawks control of the game. Matt Oxendine also knocked in two runs for South Bend in front of a season high home attendance of 6,711.

The Rattlers gave the crowd something to cheer about early. Calvin Beamon drew a walk to start the Rattler half of the first inning. He made it to third after an errant pickoff throw and scored on a single by Alex Liddi.

South Bend (50-51 overall, 16-15 second half) sent nine men to the plate in the top to take a 5-1 lead and quiet the crowd. Joey Side, Gerardo Parra, and Brad Miller delivered RBI singles in the inning. Mena's two-run double accounted for the final runs of the inning.

Wisconsin (31-67, 9-21) got back on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Leury Bonilla drove in a run with a two-out single. Bonilla made it to third on a wild throw to the plate. He would score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to a pair of runs.

South Bend padded their lead in the top of the sixth inning. A two-out RBI single by Matt Oxendine put the Hawks in front 6-3. A fielder's choice by Oxendine in the eighth inning made it 7-3.

Wisconsin tried to rally in the ninth against closer Ramon Sanchez in a non-save situation. Kuo Hui Lo doubled in the first run of the inning and Liddi singled in Lo to bring the tying run to the plate. But, Sanchez struck out Carlos Peguero and got Reed Eastley to ground out to end the game.

The Rattlers are off on Wednesday. They return to action on Thursday when the Great Lakes Loons make their first ever appearance on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tony Butler (0-6, 6.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Great Lakes will counter with Josh Wall (5-9, 4.19). Game time on Thursday night is 7:05pm.
