Lansing Lugnuts News Release
Davenport, IA - Less than 12 hours after completing a 16-inning marathon, the Lansing Lugnuts and Swing of the Quad Cities were back at John O'Donnell Stadium for a Tuesday afternoon affair to conclude their four game series. Unlike the previous night, the game and the outcome were much different, as the Swing earned a series split with an 11-4 thumping of Lansing.
The Swing held a 4-3 lead in the seventh before placing seven runs on the board to put the game away. Three runs had already crossed in the inning to make it 7-3 when Jared Schweitzer ripped a bases loaded double to left-center field that cleared the bags to push the lead to 10-3. The final run of the frame scored when Schweitzer came home on a fielder's choice.
The Lugnuts scored three times in the first inning to nab the early advantage. Matt Lane, Paul Franko, and Jonathan Baksh each had RBI singles to put Lansing ahead 3-0.
The Quad Cities began to cut into the lead in the second when Jaime Landin doubled, moved to third on an error, and later scored on an Antone DeJesus single to make it 3-1.
The Swing were able to take the lead in the next frame. After Tony Cruz smacked a one out double, Steven Hill followed suit with a double to left to plate Cruz and pull the Quad Cities within a run at 3-2. Nick Derba then drew a walk to bring up Jaime Landin, who's double to left-center brought home both runners to put the Swing ahead 4-3.
Armando Carrasco (3-1) earned the win in relief for the Swing, as he tossed three hitless innings, allowing just a walk while fanning four.
Graham Godfrey (6-5) took the loss for Lansing, as he surrendered four runs in five innings of work on seven hits. He did strike out eight batters and only three of the runs were earned to him in the outing.
Lansing (53-47, 18-13) will now take Wednesday off before returning to action on Thursday night, continuing the road trip at Clinton. Kyle Ginley (3-5, 5.04) will make the start for the Lugnuts in the series opener. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m.
