Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Davenport, IA - After 5 hours and 31 minutes, 14 pitchers, 124 at-bats, and 29 hits, the longest game in Lansing Lugnuts history finally came to an end Monday night at 12:41 a.m. central time as the Lugnuts took an 11-10 marathon win over the Swing of the Quad Cities at John O'Donnell Stadium.

With the score tied at 10-10 in the top of the 16th, Raul Barron clobbered a two out solo homer to right field to put Lansing ahead 11-10. It was the first homer of his career.

The Lugnuts took the lead in the top of the 14th inning, only to see it slip away in the bottom half of the frame. Yuber Rodriguez and Jonathan Diaz each walked to bring up Scott Campbell, who reached on a fielder's choice. But a fielding error allowed Rodriguez to score and put Lansing ahead 8-7. Travis Snider then roped a two-run single into center to seemingly put the game away at 10-7.

However the Swing would answer in their half of the inning by getting consecutive singles to lead it off. Then with one out, Nick Derba grounded into a fielder's choice, but an error by Campbell allowed Tony Cruz to score to cut the lead to 10-8. Tim Dorn then dropped a double into right field to plate Christian Reyes and pull the Swing within one. Jose Ramirez then hit a weak ground ball to shortstop, but Diaz bobbled the ball which allowed Christian Lopez to score and tie the game at 10-10.

Lansing tied the game in the eighth after trailing the entire night. Rodriguez led the frame off with a solo homer to left-center. Matt Liuzza then doubled and scored later on a Campbell single to make it 7-6. He would then move to third base on a wild pitch and score on a fielding error by shortstop Lopez that tied the game at 7-7.

The Swing snatched the lead in the first inning when Antone DeJesus drew a lead-off walk and scored on a Steven Hill double to right-center field to make it 1-0.

The lead was extended to 4-0 thanks to the longball in the next two innings, as Lopez smacked a two-run homer in the second and Jared Schweitzer drilled a solo shot in the third for the Quad Cities.

Lansing put its first run of the game on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Matt Liuzza's double off of the third base bag scored Chris Emanuele to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Lugnuts were able to make it a 4-2 game in the fifth inning when Sean Shoffit cranked his sixth homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center field.

After the Swing added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, Lansing was able to pull within one run in the sixth. Rodriguez reached on a fielding error by Quad Cities third baseman Tony Cruz and Jonathan Diaz drew a two out walk to bring up Scott Campbell. Campbell would follow that with a double to right-center that plated both runners and make the score 5-4.

The Quad Cities were able to answer right back in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own. Antone DeJesus and Jared Schweitzer each had RBI singles to put the Swing back up by three runs at 7-4.
