
Hawks Break Skid, Win in OT 4-3

October 22, 2008 - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Keith Hamilton, in his first career WHL start, stopped 30 shots and rookie defenseman Troy Rutkowski scored the overtime winner to lead the Portland Winter Hawks to a 4-3, come from behind victory over the Saskatoon Blades at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon.
The win snapped a 9 game losing streak for Portland and an 8 game winning streak for Saskatoon.
Killian Hutt assisted on three goals for Portland, and Riley Boychuk scored once and added an assist. Both Rutkowski and Boychuk scored their first career WHL goals in the win. Luke Walker and Brad Ross also had goals for Portland.
Saskatoon got goals from Adam Chorneyko, Mike Reich and Travis Toomey in the loss.
The Hawks were down 2-1 after two periods before Walker tied it in the opening minute of the final period. Saskatoon would regain the lead, just over two minutes later, but the Hawks tied it on Ross' goal and they would remain tied into overtime.
Hutt set up the overtime winner by driving toward the net, with Rutkowski trailing, the puck bounced to Rutkowski and he made a move to open the net before filing a backhand home.
Both teams went 1 for 4 on the power play.
Hamilton stopped 30 of 33 shots in the win for Portland while Adam Morrison stopped 24 of 28 in the loss for Saskatoon.
Next up, the Hawks will take on the Regina Pats on Friday night, game time is 6:00 Portland time.
