HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc won a pair 3-2 games at home taking out the Columbus Cottonmouths on Thursday night in overtime and the Knoxville Ice Bears on Friday night.
Thursday, December 10 - Columbus 2, Huntsville 3 - OT
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Scott Henegar gave the Huntsville Havoc a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths when he scored 27 seconds into the extra period.
Henegar had a great game for Huntsville, netting two goals.
The Havoc's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.2 shots per game they average.
Huntsville additionally got points from John Lidgett, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Nolan Kaiser, Brett Lutes, Jeremy Beirnes, and Jason Popek, who contributed one each.
Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its four power plays. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Louis Belisle, Shawn Bates and Rusty Hafner took 17 of the team's 32 shots. Columbus' defensemen played well offensively, producing two goals while racking up 14 shots.
Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Ben OQuinn and Andy Willigar, who each chipped in one.
Kevin Genoe rejected 30 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Shannon Szabados made 33 saves for the Cottonmouths on 36 shots. Columbus incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
Friday, December 11 - Knoxville 2, Huntsville 3
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Knoxville Ice Bears could not hold down the Huntsville Havoc, and Havoc erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 win.
Huntsville never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Havoc was down 2-0 after a goal by Knoxville's Todd Hosmer at 45 seconds in the second period. Huntsville knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Scott Henegar at 4:53 in the third period. The Havoc scored the game winner at 7:44 in the third period on a goal by Henegar.
Huntsville was sparked by Nolan Kaiser, who tallied one goal.
The Havoc stifled the Ice Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 32 shots on goal, Huntsville exceeded the 28.2 shots it averages per game this year.
Huntsville also got points from Henegar, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Kyle McNeil, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Zach Josepher, Steve Mele, and Will Aide, who contributed one each.
Knoxville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Doug Reid, Hosmer and Andrew Bonazza took 13 of the team's 21 shots.
In addition, Knoxville received assists from Jason Price, who had one.
Kevin Genoe recorded 19 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bryan Hince made 29 saves for the Ice Bears on 32 shots. Knoxville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
