Havoc Take Two At Home

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc opened the home portion of the 2015-16 season with a 4-0 win over Knoxville on Tuesday and followed that with a 6-4 win over Columbus on Friday.

Tuesday, November 10 - Knoxville 0, Huntsville 4

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Kevin Genoe recorded a shutout against the Knoxville Ice Bears as the Huntsville Havoc picked up a 4-0 win.

Knoxville's power play was ineffective against Huntsville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Havoc's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Knoxville power plays. Huntsville featured an improved defense during the game. The Havoc allow 2.3 goals per game. The Ice Bears were unable to stop Huntsville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Havoc eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Huntsville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Havoc finished with 39 penalty minutes.

Huntsville was helped by Kyle McNeil, who tallied one goal. McNeil scored 8:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Steve Mele picked up the assist. Huntsville also got points from Mele, who also had one goal and one assist and Brett Lutes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Scott Henegar as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Nolan Kaiser, who had one and Dave Williams and John Lidgett, who contributed two each.

Knoxville stifled the Havoc's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Bears could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Knoxville puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

The Ice Bears were led by Todd Hosmer, who took four shots.

Kevin Genoe made 27 saves for Huntsville on 27 shots. The Havoc registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For Huntsville, Chris Joseph was ejected from the game. Braely Torris rejected 31 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors.

Friday, November 13 - Columbus 4, Huntsville 6

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc survived a determined comeback attempt by the Columbus Cottonmouths on the way to a 6-4 win.

Huntsville took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Columbus storm back on a Craig Simchuk goal 9:37 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Havoc pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 62 penalty minutes.

Huntsville bested its season scoring average. This season, the Havoc average 3.1 goals per contest. Huntsville's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Havoc were led by Nolan Kaiser, who racked up one goal and one assist. Kaiser scored on the power play 10:18 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Huntsville. A leaving penalty bench penalty on Kyle Shapiro had put Huntsville on the power play. Brett Lutes picked up the assist. Others who scored for Huntsville included Justin Tateson, Steve Mele, Jeremy Beirnes, John Lidgett, and Will Aide, who scored one goal each. In addition, Huntsville received assists from John McGinnis, who had one and Stuart Stefan and Jason Popek, who contributed two each.

The Cottonmouths racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and five majors for 57 minutes in penalty time. Columbus surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cottonmouths' offense rang up 35 shots on the Havoc's net.

Columbus was helped by Chris Rial, who registered one goal. Rial scored 3:28 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Louis Belisle assisted on the tally. Columbus also got points from Ben OQuinn, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Simchuk, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Patrick McCadden, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Columbus came via Rusty Hafner, who had two.

Kevin Genoe made 31 saves for Huntsville on 35 shots. The Havoc registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Brandon Jaeger recorded 24 saves for the Cottonmouths. Columbus registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Cottonmouths ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Belisle was ejected from the game.
