
Haughian Deals 'Cats a Loss

Frederick, MD - The Hillcats failed to score until the ninth inning Friday night. Keys Starter, Nick Haughian pitched a season-high seven innings and struck out nine as Frederick defeated the Hillcats 6-2.
The Keys got on the board first in the bottom the third. With runners at first and second and two outs, Jonathan Schoop and Joe Mahoney delivered back-to-back RBI singles to put the Keys up 2-0.
Frederick extended their lead in the fourth. Joe Oliveira hit his first home run as a Key to put the home team up 3-0.
The Hillcats bats never got going against Keys' starter Nick Haughian. Haughian held the 'Cats scoreless through seven frames. He gave up just three hits and walked one while striking out a season-high nine batters.
Brian Ward added another run for the Keys in the bottom of the eighth with his fourth home run of the year. Two more unearned runs scored later in the inning as Hillcats' third baseman Joe Leonard committed a crucial error with two outs and the bases loaded to allow two runs to score making it 6-0 Keys.
Lynchburg avoided the shutout as Joey Terdoslavich doubled home two runs in the top of the ninth. That was all the Hillcats could muster, as they fell 6-2.
Haughian (3-3) earned the win, while LHP Matt Crim (1-5) suffered the loss giving up three runs in relief.
The series continues tomorrow night at 6:00pm at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick. RHP Aaron Shafer (0-0) will start for the Hillcats against RHP Bobby Bundy (6-3) for the Keys.
