Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wilmington put the Dash into an early hole after scoring three runs in the first three innings, and Winston fell 4-1 in front of a sell-out crowd on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. The 6,923 fans totaled the ninth sell-out of the season at BB&T Ballpark and the fourth-largest crowd of the season.
Wilmington (31-28) left the bases loaded in the first inning without scoring, but notched a run on the scoreboard in the second. Joey Lewis led off the frame with a triple, and came around to score on a single by Ryan Eigsti.
In the third, Rey Navarro led off with a double before Dash starter Cameron Bayne retired the next two batters. Cuban defector Yem Prades then hit his first professional home run to put the Rocks up by three.
The Dash (28-33) lost their manager in the bottom of the inning when Julio Vinas was tossed from the game. With runners at first and second, Jared Mitchell hit a ground ball to second baseman Rey Navarro. The Blue Rocks got the force at second, and Mitchell appeared to beat the relay throw from shortstop Alex McClure, but he was called out, prompting an argument from Vinas that ended in his ejection.
Eigsti homered to lead off the fourth inning, and that would be the final run scored against Bayne. The Dash starter set down the next 12 batters and finished a seven-inning performance.
The Dash got on the board in the eighth when Mitchell and Jose Martinez hit back-to-back singles, and Mitchell scored on a wild pitch during Ian Gac's at bat. With the tying run at the plate, reliever Henry Barrera struck out Gac and then Andy Wilkins to end the threat. Winston went in order in the ninth.
Bayne (5-4) got the loss after seven innings where he allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits and struck out six. Tim Melville (6-6) picked up the win in six scoreless innings.
Winston-Salem and Wilmington continue their series Saturday night at 7 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. LHP Joe Serafin (0-4, 5.13) throws for the Dash opposite RHP Tyler Sample (3-4, 3.73).
