Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - Louisiana IceGators head into Knoxville after hosting the Ice Bears for two games just one week ago. Emery Olauson's hat trick goal with less than a minute left in the game sealed the win for Knoxville 4-3.
Knoxville lit the lamp first when Ice Bears Captain Mike Bulawka caught the puck from Mark Van Vliet and Eric Slais and scored just 3:53 minutes into the first period. Louisiana answered two minutes later with a goal by Cameron Sault to tie the game at 1.
The Ice Bears pulled ahead in mid-period when the puck popped through a crowded net. Emery Olauson shuffled the puck past Louisiana goalie Scott Darling on a power play to bring the Ice Bears up 2-1. Olauson was assisted by Mike Tuomi and Van Vliet.
Olauson netted his second goal of the game and a 3-1 lead for Knoxville with a breakaway to an unassisted goal just 4 minutes later.
Louisiana caught up in the end of the period scoring 17:48 minutes in and again at 18:57 into the period. The goals by Louisiana's Beau McLaughlin and Eric Tallent left the first period tied at 3.
Knoxville's Bryan Hince moved into the net at the start of the second period to replace an ailing Andrew Gallant. Both teams fought to advance from the tie, a rumble between Knoxville's Bulawka and Louisiana's Tobias Karlsson raised the intensity but not the score. Both teams skated a scoreless second period keeping the score knotted at 3.
The crucial third period remained tied as teams traded fantastic opportunities that were turned away by the net minders. With 42.7 seconds left in the game, Olauson lit the lamp for a hat trick that cemented the win for the Ice Bears. After a timeout by IceGaotrs' Head Coach Kevin Kaminiski, Louisiana emptied their net and skated 6-on-5 but couldn't solve Hince. The loss to the Ice Bears makes the 15th straight loss for the IceGators.
The IceGators will return to the Coliseum on Saturday, January 8, at 7:30 p.m. to seek revenge on the Ice Bears. Join us for Mascot Race Night and watch Chilly and Nippy race against Knoxville's most popular mascots.
