Kosolofsky the Overtime Hero for RiverHawks

January 7, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta RiverHawks forward Branden Kosolofsky scored with just eight seconds remaining in overtime to give his team a 4-3 victory Friday night in Columbus, GA. The victory moves the RiverHawks into a tie for third-place in the SPHL standings with the Huntsville Havoc.

Newly signed goaltender Adam Avramenko made 35 saves to pick up the win in his first appearance with the RiverHawks. He was picked up off of waivers by the RiverHawks earlier in the day after he was released by the Fayetteville FireAntz earlier in the week. The RiverHawks placed goaltender Jordan McLaughlin on waivers today to make room on the roster.

The RiverHawks also got stellar offensive performances from Curtis Megginson and Egor Mironov. Megginson logged three assists which is a career high for points in a game. Meanwhile, Mironov scored a goal and an assist, including the game-tying goal with less than three minutes remaining in the third period.

RiverHawks' forward Lucas Labelle extended his point streak to eight games with a power play goal in the second period. The other RiverHawks' goal was scored by Jim Gehring, his first in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The loss slides the Cottonmouths into 7th place in the SPHL and out of the playoff picture for the time being.

The RiverHawks now head back to Augusta where the largest home crowd of the season is awaiting them. The James Brown Arena will be the site Saturday, January 8th as they face the Fayetteville FireAntz. It is Patriots and Pucks: Saluting our Troops night. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
