Lancaster Stormers News Release
Ryan Harvey opened the top of the ninth inning with a home run to left center field to snap a 1-1 tie and sent the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 3-1 victory over the York Revolution early Sunday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
As a result, the 2013 War of the Roses stands tied at 3-3.
Harvey connected off Joe Torres (1-1), who had retired the side in order in the eighth inning, for his sixth home run of the season and his first RBI in the last nine games. Lancaster was handed an insurance run later in the frame. Stephen Holdren picked up a one-out walk, and the Revolution allowed him to sneak to second with two outs. Jerry Owens looped a fly ball to shallow center which was dropped by a charging Tyler Graham for a two-base error.
The Barnstormers and Jason Urquidez had a scare in the bottom of the inning. Wilson Batista punched a one-out single into center. Mike Coles, playing his first Atlantic League game, worked out a lengthy walk to put the tying run on base, and both runners advanced when Graham hit a weak grounder to first. York's bench then came into play. Salvador Paniagua, leading the club with a .359 average, batted for fellow catcher Patrick Arlis and drew a walk to load the bases. At that point, Ruddy Yan was called back to the dugout for pinch hitter James Shanks. Urquidez worked ahead 0-2 before retiring Shanks on a fly ball toward the right field corner to end the game.
Both starters were in complete command for seven innings. The Revs' Nick Green yielded seven hits and a walk. Lancaster only reached the scoreboard against the right-hander on a two-out solo homer by Daryle Ward in the top of the sixth.
Lenny DiNardo was even better, checking hot hitting York on only four hits and an unearned run while walking two and striking out six. The only York run came in the bottom of the sixth. Brian Burgamy's ground ball skipped off Travis Denker's glove for an error. Andy Marte hit a chopper to Denker, who threw too late to second for a force play. Jeff Fiorentino blooped a single to center to tie the game before DiNardo induced a double play grounder out of Batista to end the threat.
Jason Richardson (1-0) earned the win with a perfect eighth inning.
The series closes on Monday night at 6:30. Will Savage (3-1), a co-Pitcher of the Month in the Atlantic League for April, jumps back into the rotation to face former Barnstormers lefty Kris Regas (1-1). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app starting at 6:15.
