Revs Edged Late By Barnstormers, Snapping Winning Streak At Four Games

The Lancaster Barnstormers scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth and withstood a York rally to defeat the Revolution 3-1 on Sunday in front of 3,928 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium, ending the Revs' season-long four-game winning streak and three-game winning streak in "War of the Roses" play. The Revs will still look to take three of four in the series which concludes on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Ryan Harvey broke a 1-1 tie with a leadoff home run to left-center in the top of the ninth inning, and the Barnstormers would score an insurance run on an error when center fielder Tyler Graham wasn't able to grab a shallow pop up off the bat of Jerry Owens with two outs in the inning.

The Revs responded by loading the bases against closer Jason Urquidez in their last at-bat but couldn't break through. Wilson Batista blooped a single to center with one out, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Mike Coles then capped an 11-pitch at-bat with a walk. Both runners advanced on a groundout by Graham, placing the tying runs in scoring position. Pinch-hitter Salvador Paniagua then worked a walk to load the bases, but Urquidez came back to retire pinch-hitter James Shanks on a flyout toward the right field corner to end the game, notching his second save.

Neither starter factored in the decision despite each submitting seven strong innings, as York's Nick Green and Lancaster's Lenny DiNardo kept things scoreless through the first five. Green's only mistake came with two outs in the sixth, when Daryle Ward drove an opposite field home run to left-center, giving Lancaster a 1-0 lead. The Revs answered back in their half of the sixth with an unearned run on a bloop single to center by Jeff Fiorentino, tying the score.

Former Revs right-hander Jason Richardson (1-0) earned the win for the Barnstormers with a 1-2-3 eighth inning. York's Joe Torres (1-1) also tossed a 1-2-3 eighth, but was charged with both runs in the ninth, suffering the loss.

Notes: Graham (0-for-4) lost a 10-game hitting streak... Andres Perez (1-for-4) has now hit safely in eight straight... Brian Burgamy drew his league-leading 26th walk in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to 22 consecutive games, tying the longest in the Atlantic League this season...
