Lancaster Stormers News Release

When you strike out four times in a game, you relish the chance to redeem yourself.

Ryan Harvey took advantage of that opportunity, singling home Adam Godwin with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning on Sunday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers edged the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 3-2, completing a three-game sweep at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

With the win, the Barnstormers moved into sole possession of first place in the Freedom Division, one game ahead of Somerset. The Patriots lost, 4-1, to York earlier in the evening.

Godwin doubled off the right field wall, just above Brian Barton's leaping try with one out in the 10th. Lancaster used Fehlandt Lentini to bat against lefty reliever Charlie Manning, forcing the Blue Crabs to give up an intentional walk. Terry Tiffee lined to left, bringing Harvey to the plate.

The right-handed slugger, who fanned all four times against starter Dan Reichert, fell behind right-hander Eduardo Morlan, 1-2. Godwin and Lentini pulled off a double steal as the count went to 3-2 on Harvey. The Lancaster DH ripped the next pitch inside the third base bag to deliver the deciding tally.

The Barnstormers grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a leadoff homer by Kody Kirkland and an RBI infield single by Brandon Haveman, the fifth hit allowed by Reichert. He would yield only one more.

Southern Maryland quickly bounced back against Rich Rundles in the third. Jeremy Owens bunted for a base hit and scored on a double down the third base line by Richard Giannotti. Paco Figueroa's sacrifice bunt slipped past Kirkland for an error, and, following a ground out by David Espinosa, Barton tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.

Rundles grew stingy, retiring 18 of the last 20 batters that he faced before giving way to the bullpen in the ninth.

Ching-Lung Lo (1-0) earned the win for Lancaster with a perfect 10th inning.

Following an off day on Monday, Lancaster will travel to Camden to open a three-game series against the Riversharks Tuesday evening at 7:05. Alan Johnson (1-2) will take the hill for the Barnstormers. Camden has not named its starter for the game. It will be aired on 1390, WLAN-AM and on 1390wlan.com as well as the I-Heart-Radio cell phone app.
