Hartford Athletic Unveils Mascot "Dillon"
March 3, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Hartford Athletic News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - Today, Hartford Athletic unveiled Dillon, the Club's first ever mascot. Dillon met Season Ticket holders at a special season ticket member event on Thursday night and on Friday, he will meet frontline workers and staff at Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health of New England.
Dillon is the club's wacky, fluffy, and friendly take on the Glawackus, an animal of legend in Connecticut, with the only sighting on record occurring in the 1930s. His fur is equal parts green and blue including an all-green mustache. Dillon's head is topped with soccer ball antennas due to his love of the beautiful game. Some of Dillon's favorite things include pizza, the song Brass Bonanza, and the colors Green and Blue.
"Dillon is a very special character and we are thrilled to introduce him as the newest member of our Green and Blue family," said Hartford Athletic Chairman Bruce Mandell. "Adding a mascot to our fan engagement program is done with our youngest fans and supporters in mind. Dillon will enhance their experience at our matches and in the community."
In late January, Hartford Athletic reached out to the club's fans seeking suggestions for a name for the mascot. Dillon was the overwhelming favorite among the submissions, paying homage to Dillon Stadium, the former name of Hartford Athletic's home stadium.
Hartford Athletic consulted with Raymond Entertainment Group, creators of iconic characters including Gritty of the Philadelphia Flyers, Burnie of the Miami Heat, Thunderbug of the Tampa Bay Lightning and many more, to help create the club's new character. Their creativity and suggestions helped create a character who is unique to the club and to Connecticut.
Dillon will be present at every Hartford Athletic match at Trinity Health Stadium this season. Fans can visit hartfordathletic.com/dillon to learn more about our new mascot or to book him for an appearance at an upcoming event.
