
Training Camp Digest: Week 5

As the calendar turned from February to March this week, the Indomitable Club shifted their focus to what lies ahead.
Another preseason match saw the club begin their preparations for March 11 at El Paso. And the club prepared to play their first contest before home fans this season.
Wednesday, the club played its penultimate exhibition of camp, taking on Oakland Roots SC on the road and claiming a 2-1 victory. After a scoreless first half, forwards Sebastian Herrera and Luther Archimède each found the net to secure the result, sending the club home on a high from their visit to the Bay Area.
Thursday, eyes turned to the club's Saturday match - home before fans at Heart Health Park for the first time. Training at Cosumnes River College took on a new intensity as the squad prepared to take the pitch before their home faithful and on friendly ground at their own stadium for the first time this year.
"The players have adapted well and shown a great attitude the past few weeks," said Head Coach Mark Briggs on Thursday. "Everyone's excited to get back to playing games that mean something."
With a just a week before the 2023 season opener, the club's feeing strong about their progress and what they've achieved since January 28.
"We've kept good health, allowing us to focus on the important stuff on the field, so I'm happy with where we're at," Briggs continued. "Obviously there are areas still to improve, but the guys have been great this preseason."
"We've had a really strong preseason and guys are starting to click," said forward Russell Cicerone. "Fitness levels are getting up and [Saturday's match] is going to be an accumulation of all we've worked on this preseason."
The countdown to the season has now reached single digits - and with day circled on the calendar drawing closer and closer with every minute, anticipation grows. The club's 10th season is all but here.
